About a year ago now we premiered the debut EP ‘Moroccan Whiskey’ by Brighton based Singer Songwriter Ez Stone. That was a pretty unforgettable debut as I wasn’t expecting to hear such a high standard on a debut, it was in a class of its own (read about it here).
So I was naturally very pleased to hear from his label ‘The Loft Sessions’ that Ez Stone had been taking some time out to write new material for a follow up. Here is his new song called ‘Jane Of All Trades’. It has a tranquil guitar opener which, whether intentional or not, has a subtle Spanish air about it which captures the mood and intention, a perfect start as he sings “she’s over the border and heading west.” His vocal expression is very striking, it’s considered, fragile and often moving. He uses it to great effect, transferring the emotion of the song to the listener with a tremendous ease as he so ably demonstrates when he sings “if all is lost I will be there to hold your hand when things get rough”. He sings it with such conviction and grace, it’s one of those wow moments.
This is an artist in ascendance and a name so many more people should be aware of.
