With high profile performances over the summer at Glastonbury, Larmer Tree, Green Man Festival, The Guardian naming their set as a highlight of this year’s 50th Cambridge Folk Festival, plus a feature in The Guardian, appearances on Woman’s Hour, The Verb and live sessions on Mark Radcliffe’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Show and Cerys Matthews’s 6 Music Show, Belinda O’Hooley and Heidi Tidow are one of the most exciting acts on the contemporary folk scene today.
Produced by Mercury nominated Gerry Diver, The Hum saw them selected as Folk Radio UK’s Artist(s) of the Month in February. The Guardian has already hailed The Hum as one of the albums of the year and as Belinda and Heidi’s most experimental album to date, with an undercurrent of optimism, celebrating the grit and mettle in migrating people, the oppressed, and the disenfranchised. It has received multiple airplay on BBC Radio 2, 3 and 6 Music, with Lauren Laverne heralding that she loves the album, Folk Album of the Month in MOJO magazine, a Top of the World choice in Songlines, culminating in Billy Bragg personally inviting the pair to perform at Glastonbury Festival.
Their brand new video released today is a live performance of ‘Peculiar Brood’- an intensely poignant look at suicide bombing from a mother’s perspective, using bird imagery, in part inspired by Hany Abu-Assadis’s 2005 film, set in Palestine called‘Paradise Now’. The duo were filmed in the beautiful Holy Trinity Church, Leeds by Minster Studios. Watch it below:
