Singer songwriter, Lorraine McCauley, is one of the most original voices among the new generation of folk and roots performers coming out of Scotland today, delivering biting commentary on social, environmental and personal issues. This autumn will see her first tour with, The Borderlands, her modern folk, celtic, gypsy, pop band with their 4 star debut album ‘Light in the Darkest Corners’.
Choosing a music career over the completion of her PhD, Lorraine has been tipped as the next contemporary folk breakthrough act by BBC Folk Award winner Karine Polwart. Drawing on her professional background of working for social and environmental change, Lorraine crafts songs of great beauty and intellect. Lorraine’s voice and songwriting has been compared to Natalie Merchant and the late Lhasa de Sela and together with her band they bring a new energy and groove to modern folk and roots music.
Following their outstanding performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival at The Famous Spiegeltent and the BBC showcase of new bands to watch, Lorraine McCauley and The Borderlands look forward to touring in England, Wales and Scotland in October and November. These talented newcomers are gaining recognition for their original songs penned by Lorraine and surrounded by unique soundscapes created by The Borderlands on accordion, cello, fiddle, mandolin, glockenspiel, percussion and viola.
