Our Song of the Day comes from Kirsty Law who hails from the borders, she grew up learning traditional songs, mainly in the Scots dialect. Riddles, our Song of choice, features Wounded Knee (Drew Wright, a singer, experimental vocalist based in Edinburgh) and is taken from her forthcoming album Shift. The track really highlights the vocal gymnastics they use and transform into music. Whilst steeped in a long held Scottish tradition they bring a fascinating contemporary edge that makes their music both refreshing and exciting:
I’m personally looking forward to hearing and sharing more from this album which includes a number of musicans including Rona Wilkie (BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2012) and Marit Falt (Vamm) who make up the The Kirst Law Band. They also perform as a duo, Johnny reviewed their album Turas here.
Shift is out December 1st 2014. The album also features some lovely photographs by Mhairi Law.
