Tin Angel sent this my way this morning and as soon as I heard it I though I was listening to a re-issue of a late ’60s Laurel Canyon folk revival classic. Turns out to be Canadian artist John Southworth, a new name to me no longer. The track ‘Ode to the Morning Sky’ is taken from his album Niagara which he had this to say about:
“There is Canadian music and there is American music. This record is the first of its kind that I know of to be divided by a border. Each side a simultaneous interpretation of the same crisis.”
You read that right…it’s a double record featuring a Canadian side, with ‘mirrored counterparts’ on the American side. We’ll be bringing you more on this release in due course, but for now check the video for Ode To The Morning Sky, our Song of the Day.
