We have the the music website and the radio station, whilst these all exist in the virtual space of the internet there’s been a long-standing desire for Folk Radio UK to launch a live music night out there in the real world. I’m pleased to announce that we are doing just that.
In celebration of our 10th Anniversary we have have teamed up with Bridgwater Arts Centre to bring Somerset a new and fresh Folk Club Night, working as ‘The Levels Collective’. The name is taken from the Somerset Levels, an area that is both beautiful and full of history.
We will be showcasing emerged, emerging, traditional, contemporary, roots, world, Americana, with a twist of the psychedelic from time to time.
I met Kate Goodale, Artistic Manager at Bridgwater Arts Centre in early 2014 and the venue is perfect for Folk Radio UK, it has a great space and a real warmth and charm. What lies behind the Georgian Town House front is pretty magical. Add to this a great team that share our passion for music and you’ve got a winner.
‘It was a fortuitous meeting. Alex wanted to start expanding Folk Radio UK into live events, and I wanted to start something regular and new at the Arts Centre, something that brought together our existing folk audience, as well as new audiences who wanted to see a wide variety of live music – not just trad folk. We want to make a really magical regular club night’, Kate says.
From 2015, The Levels Collective will be running monthly prior to which they will run two showcase events to give a taster of what is to come! Get you tickets now!
