Our Song of the Day is from Will Wood, a name that will be new to most in the UK as it was through fellow New Zealander Aldous Harding that I came across the man. It turns out he’s a bit of a veteran on the NZ music scene and can normally (until now at least) be found behind a drum kit for hardcore punk act Parents.
Now at the age of 25 he has taken the path to solo performance as well as a big musical transition to outsiders looking in. Amazingly he has managed to play in a band (as mentioned), perform solo on top of finishing his psychology degree and working his day job in South Auckland’s mental health system. On top of that he’s also managed play solo shows across the country and in the US, and has toured with acts like The Handsome Family, Wagons, and Frank Turner. That’s called dedication!
Sick of it All is our Song of the Day and is Will’s first single from his debut album ‘Broken Man’ out on Lyttelton Records.
And just because I like the man’s music so much here’s a video of him performing Take Me Away live:
