Bellowhead have revealed the new video for Let Her Run which features on their new double A side single Let Her Run / I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight. Watch the video below:
Songs of the sea always seem to fit the powerful dynamic edge of Bellowhead and ‘Let Her Run’, an adaptation from the hauling shanty Let the Bulgine Run is a perfect fit. According to the Revival liner notes ‘bulgine’ is slang for ‘engine’. There are many variants of this song under many names such as Eliza Lee or Clear the Track including, bizarrely, a music hall version with Biblical verses.
‘I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight’ should need no introduction as a cover of the Richard & Linda Thompson classic which was itself released on Island in 1974. According to Jon Boden the decision to include it came to him whilst sat in the Island boardroom:
‘I’d done half an arrangement anyway, said vocalist Jon Boden, ‘Then we’re sitting in the Island boardroom and there is a reproduction of the Bright Lights single cover on the wall and it just felt like the perfect choice’.
