Irish film director Myles O’Reilly who runs his productions under the moniker of Arbutus Yarns has featured regularly on Folk Radio UK, not just because our musical paths seem to regularly cross but also because he has a great eye for capturing detail that often leaves his subjects being seen from a completely new angle that makes captivating viewing.
For one of his latest projects Myles & his crew filmed one of Ireland’s biggest independent bands ‘The Frames’ which is led by the larger than life Glen Hansard. They captured a special one-off gig at Dublin’s famous live music venue Whelan’s in honour of the club’s 25th anniversary, you can watch the first instalment below:
Band Bio:
Founded in 1990 by Glen Hansard, The Frames is one of Ireland’s biggest independent bands. At 17 Glen borrowed money from his parents to record a demo, pressing 50 copies that he distributed to family and friends; one of the copies made its way to Island Records, which ended up signing Hansard to the roster. With the jump to the major, he founded the Frames, taking the name from his childhood fascination with bicycles; he regularly repaired his friends’ bikes, and with the frames scattered about his family’s yard, their home was consequently known as “the house with the frames”.
