Fresh from playing Glastonbury and with several other festivals also lined up for the summer including Cambridge, Green Man, Larmer Tree and Sligo live, O’Hooley & Tidow release a new single form their superb Gerry Diver produced The Hum.
Summat’s Brewin’, recently crowned The Huddersfield Beer Anthem, sounds like a joyful celebration of the craft of real ale-making in their hometown of Huddersfield, referencing the traditional refrain of “Oh good ale, thou art my darling’. Further listens reveal the revolutionary zeal of the real ale obsessives offering boldly flavoured alternatives that are the success story of our declining pub trade. In the process these small businesses are stirring up, and bringing together communities and turning the tide against corporate domination and the destruction of the local British pub.
The b-side Peculiar Brood is an intensely poignant, beautifully melodic looks at a suicide bombing from a mother’s perspective, using bird imagery, in part inspired by Hany Abu-Assadis’s 2005 film Paradise Now.
Released via No Masters – 21 July 2014
