This video from Allah-Las is great on two levels, firstly their cover of The Frantics 1960 garage classic ‘No Werewolf’ is brilliant. The original was released as a b-side on Seattle label Dolton with the a-side featuring ‘Werewolf’ that included a voice-over that sounded right out of a Hammer House of Horror movie.
The second reason for loving it is the actual video: it was produced in Russia by the sculptor artist Mikhail Sadovnikov who enjoyed the band’s new work so much he was inspired to recreate a “dance on the circle” out of wet clay on his potter’s wheel. He used to be a mathematician which maybe explains his ability to cleverly manipulate the patterns and create optical illusions when the wheel is speeded up.
‘No Werewolf’ features as a bonus track on their forthcoming album ‘Worship the Sun’ a fusion of West Coast garage rock and roll, Latin percussion and electric folk (due September 15th on Innovative Leisure). Don’t miss their live dates.
