Our Song of the Day comes from Peirs Haslam, a young folk singer whose love for folk music was sealed after hearing Fairport Convention’s “Liege and Lief”…I’m sure many of you can relate to that.
When Spring Comes In is the B-side of his new single which will be released on Stone Tape Recordings offshoot You.Must.Listen. who are based in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex and where you can catch Piers performing on 29th June at the Leigh Folk Festival, an annual free festival that boasts an excellent line-up.
Influences: Martin Carthy, Alasdair Roberts, Richard Thompson, John Kirkpatrick, Edalat Nasibov, and Jake Wilson
Home Town: London
Bio:
I’ve been playing guitar since I was 11, and my love of folk music started when I first heard Fairport Convention’s “Liege and Lief” album, and my love was solidified when I saw Dave Swarbrick live at the Goose is Out folk club in Dulwich.I’m now 17, and have persistently been going more obscure with the songs and tunes I play. I’ve visited the Vaughan Williams Memorial library at Cecil Sharp House to find stuff, I use the Bodleian Library’s online collection of broadsides, and I use the excellent Full English archive.
You can also expect to here some of my own compositions. These are instrumentals, and take inspiration from folk/world/classical/rock… etc.
I also play and sing regularly, both at billed gigs, and at my local singaround.
