Update: Read our review of Acoustic Classics here
Last year Richard Thompson released ‘Electric’ which was recorded at the home of producer Buddy Miller in Nashville, it went on to receive rave reviews from the music press. Well the good news is he’s back with a new album but no electrics…
Acoustic Classics is what it says on the tin: a collection 14 tracks culled from his 40 plus year music career. These are all new acoustic recordings featuring some his best: “I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight”, “Dimming of the Day” alongside some of his best and most loved including “1952 Vincent Black Lightning” and “Beeswing” and more (tracklisting below).
“I really wanted to have something that would reflect the acoustic shows,” Richard explains, “But we didn’t have anything like that. Just some old, slightly scratchy recordings of solo sets that I wasn’t really happy with.” His last proper solo acoustic release was the live Small Town Romance, and that was more than 30 years ago! In the meantime, the acoustic shows have evolved as a full parallel to his band tours.
We’ll be bringing you more on this album very soon so watch this space, in the meantime here’s a live acoustic performance of Richard performing 1952 Vincent Black Lightning
