Hailing from the high country of Gunnison valley, western Colorado, Jenny Hill, Lizzy Plotkin and Katherine Taylor combine their homegrown talents as Free The Honey. As a band they’ve only been going since early 2013 but they’ve all been honing their their musicianship from a very young age. Featuring twin fiddles, banjo, mandolin, guitar, upright bass and not forgetting those sweet harmonies they play some of the best Americana music around which is all the better for the shades of colour they bring through gypsy jazz, old-time, bluegrass, blues and gospel.
Their latest EP In our Hands displays that diversity remarkably across just 7 tracks. Have a listen to their EP opener ‘Helen’s Song‘ on which their harmonies combine with that fiddle to really work their magic. This is just exquisite…
And just so you get a feel for where I’m coming from about the breadth of their music check These Ramblin’ Blues…
Go and get yourself their EP, you can’t go wrong.
