We have a beautiful première today from Australian singer-songwriter Hanah Botting and her solo project Owl & Mouse. Somewhere to Go is the first full EP from Owl & Mouse which features many of the attributes we are drawn to on Folk Radio UK from beautiful harmonies and moving melodies there’s nothing not to love on this EP.
These gentle folk-tinged songs wield a deceiving emotive force at the heart of which is Hannah’s vulnerable voice and ukulele. She puts this into full effect on ‘Don’t Read the Classics‘ which will raise the hairs on your neck once sister Jen joins in on harmonies.
The songs revolve around the theme of love and heartbreak but not all in the traditional sense. Don & Anna is an ode to platonic love whilst Western Skies touches on the hopelessness and loneliness caused by displacement inspired by Hannah’s very real sense of missing her family and friends back in Australia. This is an exceptionally beautiful EP and one that should be on everyone’s radar. Listen to it below:
Hannah performs with her sister Jen Botting on backing vocals, Tom Wade on bass, and Emma Winston on Keyboards.
Somewhere to Go is released 23rd June via Fika Recordings (7″ EP on sky blue vinyl).
