Twelfth Day are the Scottish duo Catriona Price (fiddle and vocals) born in Orkney and Esther Swift (pedal harp, clarsach and vocals) from the Scottish Borders. They released their debut album Northen Quarter in 2010 followed by a collaborative album with Gaelic singer Joy Dunlop in 2012 called Fiere which was reviewed by Mike Wilson for Folk Radio UK (read it here).
Their new album The Devil Makes Three is due for release on 9th June via Proper Music and we’ll be bringing you more on this very soon. They have been travelling a lot recently with their international folk sharing project Routes to Roots which has seen them visit Quebec, Malawi and Brazil with further journeys yet to unfold including Mongolia after which they will bring musicians from the four countries to the UK to record and tour. You can follow their video tour diary by subscribing to their Youtube page. Here’s taster with Day One:
Our Song of the Day is The Devil Makes Three which is taken from the new album and is an adapted version of the traditional American song “Didn’t Leave Nobody But The Baby” which I’m sure many of will have heard before as it featured on the soundtrack to the Coen Brothers film O Brother, Where Art Thou?.
Catriona and Esther are also touring the UK and Ireland at present so do try and see them is you can, they are incredibly talented and you won’t be disappointed. Dates below:
