In November last year we made The Gentle Good’s Y Bardd Anfarwol an Album of the Month. The abum was reviewed by Helen Gregory for Folk Radio UK (read the review here) in which she revealed the origins of this project which came about when front man Gareth Bonello travelled to the city of Chengdu in China in October 2011 to take up a 6 week artistic residency with the Chengdu Associated Theatre of Performing Arts.
Upon his return to the UK Gareth continued to work on the project with composer Seb Goldfinch, The Mavron String Quartet and members of the UK Chinese Ensemble and now, some two years further along the road, the fruits of the labours of Gareth and his various collaborators can at last be tasted in his new record Y Bardd Anfarwol.
Helen concluded ‘A wonderful record, a record full of wonder; I can’t recommend it highly enough.’
This Chinese-Welsh folk fusion LP was certainly original so to contemplate a visual accompaniment was no easy task. Gareth’s label revealed the new video today adding:
“Thankfully, the resulting collaboration with Jammy Custard Studios matched, exceeded and then promptly combusted our expectations. Following its premiere on S4C last night, we can now unveil the gorgeous animated interpretation of Yr Wylan Fry for your wider delectation.”
