Back in 2012 Craig Walker reviewed Otis Gibbs’ album Harder Than Hammered Hell (read it here) and he opened it with a quote “Woah – how are we supposed to follow that? This guy is the real deal!” – the words of a well-known Americana act tasked with following Otis Gibbs’ live show at the Belfast’s Open House Festival in 2009. We’re in complete agreement with Craig in his closing comments “This is one guy you don’t want to miss if he is playing anywhere near your town.”
The good news is that Otis is over here in the UK again in July playing the likes of Summertyne Festival at Sage Gateshead to a Pull Up the Roots gig at London’s The Old Queen’s Head, a full list of dates are below. In the meantime here’s a small taster:
Thanks For Giving A Damn
And here’s something not everyone knows, Otis runs a brilliant podcast from his home in East Nashvlle called Thanks For Giving A Damn in which he invites favourite musicians to share stories: road trips to tall tales. You just don’t hear conversations like this… great show. Check out and download this episode with Chuck Mead in which Chuck he talks about visiting the Bigfoot Museum, Roswell, dropping acid whilst delivering pizza and seeing a UFO, misbehaving in hotel rooms with Levon Helm, bumming smokes from Keith Richards, acquiring Dee Dee Ramone’s bass, playing with Don Helms, Hank Williams stories…
