We rate Emily Barker as a very special songwriter and she has the BAFTA award for the theme to BBC TV crime dramas Wallander to prove it. She also wrote and recorded the theme to anther BBC drama The Shadow Line.
Much of her songwriting is influenced by Australian history, culture and literature, in particular on her latest album, Dear River, an exploration of the meaning of ‘home’ and its related tangents of exile, displacement and family. As part of the This Way Up – Australia & New Zealand Festival of Literature & Arts Emily will perform as exclusive solo performance featuring songs from her six recorded albums. She will explore the literary connections in her lyrics, with particular attention to her own roots.
It promises to be an intimate showcase of her talent and a unique and specially staged insight into her songwriting process.
The show is at Kings College Strand Campus, London,WC2R 2LS this Saturday 31st May 2014 with an early start at 5.30PM.
