Canadian born folk singer Bonnie Dobson climbed to fame in the 1960’s and is most famous for, although certainly not limited to, the songs “I’m Your Woman” and “Morning Dew“. She released her first album Bonnie Dobson – She’s Like A Swallow in 1961 releasing five further albums up until 1972. She performed a final concert in 1989 before bowing out of the public limelight.
She didn’t re-appear on stage again until 2007 when she appeared at Meltdown Festival’s The Lost Ladies of Folk, a concert held at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall alongside Susan Christie and Wendy Flower.
Then in 2013 at the tribute concert ‘A Celebration of Bert Jansch‘ she took to the stage to perform a duet with Robert Plant. They performed, not suprisingly, ‘Morning Dew’ a track that Plant had previously covered on his Dreamland album (2002).
Whilst this was all going on Bonnie was gathering her boys for a comeback album. Her boys include Ben Paley (fiddle), Ben Phillipson (guitar & dulcimer), Jonny Bridgwood (double bass), Dave Morgan (drums), Felix Holt (hca & vocals), B J Cole (pedal steel guitar & dobro), Sean Read (trumpet & percussion) and (her girl) Ruth Tidmarsh (vocals). “Take Me For A Walk In The Morning Dew” will be released in June 2014 via Hornbeam Records.
Watch the video below which includes her performing with The Boys as well as an open discussion in which she talks about her career to date.
