Our Song of the Day is from Brooklyn based Dubl Handi (pronounced Double Handy) who are named after a Washboard company from the 1800’s. Using percussion, drums, guitar and banjo they play songs from the Appalachians. Shout Little Lula is from their 2013 album Up Like the Clouds on which I promise you’ll be spoilt for choice. Their rhythmic groove is infectious appealing to audiences of all ages…this is acoustic roots music at its best.
Lyrics:
How many nickels does it take
To see little lula’s body shakeShout little lula
Sing and Shout
What the heck are you shouting aboutCoffee in a pot
Sugar in a bowl
Daddy won’t eat without the jelly roll
CHORUSI got a girl
She eats her greens
Shakes her leg
And she shakes it mean
CHORUSShout, Little Lula,
Shout your best
Your old grandmother’s gone to rest
CHORUS
