The Battlefield Band are currently on tour in the US and put in an appearance on Garrison Keillor’s vaiety show A Prairie Home Companion. They performed Eight Men of Moidart which is from their album Room Enough for All. Watch it below:
Founded by a group of friends in 1969 and named after the ‘Battlefield’ area of Glasgow the Battlefield Band are something of a Scottish institution whose membership has evolved over their forty plus years but have remained a bedrock of incredible talent that have championed Celtic music. The current line-up is Mike Katz, Alasdair White, Sean O’Donell and Ewen Henderson.
When I first started Folk Radio UK in 2004 it was their eponymous album from 1977 that I frequently played. The album was released on the Topic label with the line-up of Alan Reid, Brian McNeill, Jamie McMenemy and John Gahagan. The Shipyard Apprentice is still one of my all time favourites, it has a fire in its heart that never fails…”it was tears that made the Clyde”.
