Our Song of the Day is Dambuilding from the forthcoming Wooden Wand album ‘Farmer’s Corner’. James Jackson Toth has pulled together a great band for this release including guitar virtuoso William Tyler and collaborator Darin Gray. The magic of this album lies as much in the process of recording, rather than repeat the same old well trodden process with the same people in the same place he recorded the album in parts…a bit like a road journey, recording new songs as he wrote them laying down the tracks when and where he felt like it which ended up being over six sessions in four studios.
I can’t argue with his decision to record this way not after hearing the first result: Dambuilding has that beautiful longevity of a classic staying with you long after that final lap steel note fades. If this is just a dip in the pool of what to expect on the new album then I can’t wait to hear more. This is music to watch the sun go down at then end of long summer day.
‘Farmer’s Corner‘ due out on Fire Records 19 May 2014
