For those unfamiliar with Tissø Lake it is the recording project of Ian Humberstone (one of my favourite all-time artists I hasten to add) and a list of co-conspirators which is nothing unusual for Ian who is responsible for many great projects including The Folklore Tapes. Between 2006-2008 Ian released three records under this title after which he toured the project in basements, art galleries, churches, scout hits and underpasses of the UK and North America in various guises before taking a hiatus in early 2010.
Carnival / Canter 7″ single is the first release under the guise of Tissø Lake since 2009, so in my world this is really big news. I will be brining you more on Tissø Lake very soon but just to add this re-pairs Humberstone with violinist and drummer Robin Spottiswoode and introduces a new chapter for the project as a collaborative band producing short-run releases, every so often.
To celebrate the release there is a very special launch at Summerhall, Edinburgh on Saturday 15th March 2014 at 8:00pm. Also performing is Daniel Bachman whose psychedelic appalachia offering ‘Jesus I’m a Sinner’ was released via the Tompkins Square Label last year (read our article).
Because this is such great news we’re making this our single of the day rather than ‘Song of the Day’…Do yourself a favour…buy it and get to this gig.
