We introduced the Moulettes to our readers and listeners back in 2010 when we interviewed them in Belfast during the Open House Festival. The crowd at the Black Box that night weren’t the quietest but when the band got going the crowd were transfixed…their performance was jaw-droppingly brilliant.
Their mix of genres and influences is staggering but where they come to the fore is in their uncanny inventiveness and mind blowing arrangements. They have no need for studio gimmicks, what you hear on their albums they re-create on stage effortlessly…or in a field (listen to our field session here). But that was in the past…what they’re offering now, as you can hear from the title track of their new album Constellations below is a light-year leap ahead…it doesn’t get any better…although I’m sure they’ll prove me wrong in the future:
They have been touring relentlessly and have built a solid and well respected reputation. They are now launching their third album ‘Constellations’ into a musical atmosphere that rarely sees such accomplished musicianship, storytelling and song craft working so harmoniously together.
The ‘Constellations’ sessions saw Herbie Flowers (Lou Reed, David Bowie), Arthur Brown (God of Hellfire), Emma Richardson (Band of Skulls), Blaine Harrison (Mystery Jets) and The Unthanks join the band in the studio. This tour will see their dark comedy and otherworldly moods expand into bigger orchestral arrangements; so don’t be surprised if some of the special guests from the sessions and others turn up on stage to promote this astronomically epic new record. ‘Constellations’ is out June 2nd on Navigator Records (home to Lisa Knapp, Bellowhead, Fiona Bevan, Paper Aeroplanes, Oysterband and many more).
We will be bringing you a lot more on this release in due course.
Constellations will be released on Navigator Records on June 2nd
