We are very pleased to have Allysen Callery back for another Folk Radio UK session, her last was way-back in 2010 and was very popular to say the least. A lot’s been happening in between with the release of new albums, the last being Mumblin Sue which we reviewed last year. She also has a lot in the pipeline with three showcases at this years SXSW in Austin, Texas which kicks off this Friday. She’s also in the process of recording two new albums, one of which will be released on Facture which is run by our close friend Dan who also runs Fluid Radio.
The session Allysen recorded for us features three of her own songs and one traditional song ‘Blackwaterside‘ which she first heard Anne Briggs performing. The session also marks a new direction for Allysen on which she intertwines her love of psychedelic and trad folk. Her friend Bob Kendall (bobkendall.com) recorded her in his shed one snowy evening, “Don Julio tequila was involved” she tells me, “He put the ambient production on for fun, and I liked it so much now I think we’ll be making more music together. His style & mine are a perfect match.”
I think you’ll all agree that this session is simply magical, she never disappoints and always leaves you wanting more.
Enjoy.
