Mawkin are anxious to get out on the road to showcase their new album which will hopefully follow later in the year. Well known for their sublime fusion of folk with a mass of other genres from jazz to prog it’s hard to believe they began life way back in 2002 after which they went through a couple of transformations being joined by Jim Causley in 2008 to become Mawkin:Causely releasing their fantastic debut ‘The Awkward Recruit’ in 2009. Then in 2010 the band disbanded. Jim busied himself with the recording of a solo record whilst Alex Goldsmith hung up his melodeon and retired from music.
The decision to forge on with some new additions was a brave one but 2012 brought them the fruits of their hard work with their best album yet. Crow demonstrated that Mawkin are not the kind to plough the same furrow and are constantly looking at new ways to evolve their own brand of folk music. The results spoke loudly and we’re confident that what will follow will also meet their mark if not leap beyond it.
Here they are performing at Bath Folk Festival in 2012.
