We’re all very excited about the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards tomorrow and whilst many of you are familiar with many of the nominees (especially if you followed us over the past year) this is a very big deal for the not so well known. The BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award features artists aged between 16-21 and the shortlist got to attend a programme of workshops and talks from Rachael McShane (Bellowhead), John Spiers (Bellowhead, Spiers & Boden), John Smith and Kelly Wood (Musicians Union). They also perform in a public concert, presented by Mark Radcliffe, at the Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal, where they each get a turn to showcase their talent.
Here’s a bit of an insight courtesy of the BBC:
This years’ concert included the following 10 acts:
Ben & Alfie
Granny’s Attic
Miss Irenie Rose
Darren James Hodge
Hannah Slater-Patterson & Michael Biggins
Gentlemen of Few
Sam Mabbett & Dylan Cairns Howarth
Hattie Briggs
Slow Loris
Mischa Macpherson Trio
The nominees this year are: Hattie Briggs, Gentlemen of Few, Granny’s Attic and The Mischa Macpherson Trio.
