Whilst the name Sugar Magnolia may be new to most of you the names that make up this duo will not be: Bryony Afferson is part of popular folk-trio Troubadour Rose, whose record Tell Me, released in September last year, attracted rave reviews from The Guardian amongst others. The other half is Jack Day whose debut album The First Ten, released in January this year, is one of our ‘Best Albums of 2013’.
Together they make a killer combination, they bundle up a lot of heartache into their songs and none more so than ‘North London Country’, which is also our Song of the Day, on which Bryony Afferson packs a mighty emotional punch. They have released two demos which are free to download below:
