Elephant revival are in the UK for a series of dates which started last night at Celtic Connections. The band release their third album These Changing Skies on March 17th in the UK and have just released their first single, Remembering A Beginning which they recently performed for ‘Subway Tracks’ in New York:
Formed on the banks of Spring Creek in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Elephant Revival relocated to Nederland, Colorado in 2006. With shared values, their lifestyle is as important as the way that their disparate musical backgrounds and playing styles began to form a more cohesive and unique sound. Their world view has connected with a growing fanbase and Elephant Revival have become a firm favourite at festivals such as Telluride and Old Settlers and is selling out theatres in their native Colorado as well as legendary rooms such as Joe’s Pub in NYC, The Ark in Ann Arbor and The Tractor Tavern in Seattle.
The Elephant Revival Sound is based on three strong voices, Bonnie Paine who sings Remembering A Beginning, guitarist Daniel Rodriguez and banjo player and multi-instrumentalist Sage Cook. Fiddle player Bridget Law and bass player and multi instrumentalist Dango Law complete the line up. There a haunting quality to this first single as Bonnie sings, “There’s a fire burning, in the middle of this turning / Wild and yearning / For everything, for everything / Remains inside, these changing skies / Through waves in time/Remembering.” She’s expressing a part of the band’s philosophy, which strives for the bigger truths and the constants of the universal amidst the ephemera of our daily lives.
There’s a show at The Lexington with Paul Armfield, which could be a special night. Watch this space.
