Back in 2011 we featured a Folk Radio UK session from Adam Holmes and the Embers (listen again below) which we were delighted to be able use as a way of introducing you all to a great new talent. I said back then you’d be hearing more from Adam and his band and sure enough he has a debut album out on 17 Jan 2014 which will be launched at Celtic Connections.
Heirs & Graces was really worth the wait, it’s a breathtaking debut, recorded with legendary producer John Wood (responsible for seminal albums by John Martyn, Nick Drake, Nico, Squeeze, Sandy Denny, Richard Thompson).
Hotly-tipped Edinburgh balladeer Adam Holmes crafts lyrics that resonate like old folk songs, set to melodies rooted in haunting slow airs. John Martyn’s strum and sting, laced with a slice of Paolo Nutini soul and a touch of traditional folk.
Digitally released in September 2013, Heirs and Graces reached No. 12 in the iTunes chart, and saw Holmes nominated as Up and Coming Artist of the Year in the 2013 Scots Trad Music Awards. He launches the CD version with a show at Glasgow’s illustrious Celtic Connections festival in January, backed by his regular live band The Embers.
