Since it’s conception in 2010, Woodburner has taken place every Tuesday night in the most interesting underground spaces Hackney has to offer. Its weekly night is unamplified which creates the very special intimate atmosphere that defines them, as well as a friendly and welcoming community atmosphere.
Well over 200 acts have graced the Woodburner stage that FRUK readers and listeners will be familiar with including Johnny Flynn, Nick Mulvey, Lucy Rose, Sam Lee, This is the Kit, The Melodic, Cocos Lovers, Gill Landry (Old Crow Medicine Show) and The John Langan Band.
On Friday 20th December 2013 Peckham Liberal Club will play host on the night; a hidden gem in South London which was recently saved from development by being listed as a community asset. Featuring original parquet dance floor, luxurious snooker room, characterful bar rooms, garden, darts room, and a glittering stage.
After a sublime year of packed weekly nights, seasonal specials, and festival stages, Woodburner plan to see out 2013 in proper style, pulling out all the stops for our dedicated and ever growing band of followers:
THE KANSAS SMITTY’S HOUSE BAND
This smokin-hot octet are on a crusade to put the danger back in jazz. With their heavyweight lineup fronted by virtuoso horn-player Giacomo Smith, we’re not about to argue with them.
MANO DE DIOS
Jackson Scott brings ragtime, gypsy and rumbas with his band of musical rascals. Their own brand of mayhem will surely follow.
THE MCGOWNS
All the way from Leeds, these boys do classic, all-in-black rockabilly like no one else.
