For their latest album EMMAAR (due for release on Anti- Feb 11th 2014) Tinariwen escape the turmoil & instability of their homeland and head for the Californian desert – Joshua Tree National Park, birthplace of stone rock. The new surroundings have breathed fresh life into Tinariwen’s music, drawing together the sounds of band’s old and new desert homes.
EMMAAR, set to be released in 2014, features collaborations with Saul Williams, Josh Klinghoffer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fats Kaplin, guitarist and producer Matt Sweeney, and sound engineer Vance Powell. With the help of these artists, the album captures the essence of stone rock, and the “assouf” of Tinariwen – loneliness and nostalgia, in the Tamasheq language.
Microcultures Campaign
Tinariwen are seeking fans to join them in creating a world tour and new music video through Microcultures.
It is impossible to watch Tinariwen perform without feeling moved. Thanks to you, in 2014 they will once again travel the world to inspire and spread their message through their haunting guitar riffs. Of course, there are costs involved: studio rehearsals, not to mention guitars and amps every bit as good as Tinariwen themselves, as well as authentic costumes and scenery. The aim of this tour is to create a live, immersive and hypnotic concert experience: to bring the desert to the fans.
