To coincide with Bob Dylan’s The Complete Album Collection Volume 1 on Columbia/Legacy Recordings an interactive video has been released for his 1965 classic Like A Rolling Stone, a song that has never had an official music video, until now, half-century later.
Interactive videos seem to be the latest fad and this one features out-takes of TV channel programmes which will be more familiar to American TV viewers and channel surfers. They have all been cleverly lip-synced to make it appear as though they are singing Like A Rolling Stone. Needless to say the channels and footage add a sense of irony to the song as Dylan sings about “having to be scrounging for your next meal” and living on the street as a TV chef demonstrates her next creation, or a glamorous model raves about the latest fashion accessory…it all adds up. The clever bit is that no two people will engage with the video in the same way twice.
