Bristol based artist Robin Mitchell goes under a number of pseudonyms for the various side projects he has become involved in over the years but his latest offering is an uncloaked solo EP called ‘Return!’ Just take a listen to ‘Hibernating’ one of the stand out tracks on the EP. A song about loss, on which Robin’s lyrics are super charged with emotion, when that chorus hits it knocks you to the floor.
The addition of Jesse Hodgson’s accordion on ‘Here on Earth’ makes a great folky anthem for a song that’s in many respects simple and says it like it is whilst the opening and closing tracks deal in the weightier apocalyptic…Not Peace, But A Sword is an upbeat track for an ironically dark song…remniscent of Freschard and Stanley Brinks.
There’s a lot going on (in a good way) in this 7-track EP, Robin’s a natural and I imagine he has a very full songbook to get through yet! If you haven’t heard him before then go and check this EP out. Poetic and inspirational sketches to listen to by the fire.
