The Mischa Macpherson Trio is made up of Mischa MacPherson (song & clarsach), Innes White (guitar) and Conal McDonagh (pipes & whistles) all of whom hail from the beautiful Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Mischa is from Stornoway and has a fantastic voice…the next Julie Fowlis maybe?
Although they all studied at the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music they didn’t meet there…that was to happen later in 2011 on the award winning community project Feis Rois International Ceilidh Trail. They all share a passion for the Gaelic tradition and as you can hear below they have a natural talent for conveying that passion in their music:
Cha d’fhuair mi’n Cadal
Leanabh an Oir
They have been building up a very good reputation having performed at Hebridean Celtic Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe and Celtic Connections. They have shared their music at concerts in Ireland, Germany and Romania and in June 2013 they performed at Australia’s National Celtic Festival in Melbourne.
The have exciting times ahead as they are short-listed as finalists for the 2014 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award. I’d say they are very strong contenders!
They bring a rich vitality and passion to the traditional music they play. With musicianship like this the Gaelic tradition will continue to spread far and wide. A real joy to listen to!
