The draw of life to more remote northern climes is by no means a new notion. Composer Ben Frost gave a fascinating insight to this in The Whale Watching Tour DVD when he retold how he had relocated from the road melting climate of Melbourne to Iceland where he joined kindred souls in the form of the Bedroom Community. There is something magical in that feeling of hibernating away in a winter landscape and a lot of the music coming from these regions has an otherworldliness about it that forms a perfect landscape impression and connects to something more primal within us…a longing to migrate maybe. Producer-singer/songwriter Dustin Tebbutt was another in a long list to be drawn away from his native Australia. He decided to spend 2 years living and working, writing and recording in Sweden.
The result of this migratory diversion is a new 4 track EP which translates both that physical and mental journey…the things he left or lost along the way, and the person that came back.
Entitled ‘The Breach’, Tebbutt’s debut EP – which will be self released in the UK in early 2014 – includes the title track alongside three new songs; ‘Where I Find You’, ‘The Wolves (Reprise)’, and ‘White Lines’. This is the music for your autumns and winters. For the soft light, for the rainy windowpane, for that silent drive in the night, or the carving of a home from a new place.
Accompanying the EP is a newly crafted video for ‘Where I Find You’. While trawling through a bunch of Creative Commons footage, Dustin stumbled across some old documentary style images. After working with ice, light and electricity to produce some desired effects, this footage combined with the song creates an intriguing video. Watch the official video for ‘Where I Find You’.
