Earlier this month London based Vadoinmessico headed out to the US where they played in LA at The Echo, the Cake Shop and Rockwood Music Hall. This was a highlight of their year and we caught up with Giorgio on their return to find out how the trip went and to share some of their tour photos with you all.
“The whole experience of going to play in the US has been incredible for us. During these two weeks we have visited and played Los Angeles (Culture Collide Festival) and New York City (CMJ Music Marathon). On top of the excitement for playing our first American shows since 2010, we got the excitement for seeing such surreal places (they are for a European!), which some of us had never been to before.
“It’s very inspiring to wonder around new cities, especially those you have the illusion of having memories of, because you have seen them in 2D since before you could even stand up. And you seem to have arrived there so suddenly, and it’s ok to forget about the music, forget about the details of it, focus the attention elsewhere, because that’s where it is best to focus it if you want to make something out of it.
“Someone said “you can’t do poetry with poetry, you can’t do theatre with theatre, you can’t do music with music”. It’s true, the inspiration is elsewhere! We found a lot of it during this trip, wondering around LA and NYC, meeting people like Mark, the big grumpy bouncer of the New York venue which draws you a portrait while checking customers’ IDs (see photo), and threatens to hit you if you try to take a picture of him.”
