Our Song of the Day is from Tony Dekker, the frontman for Canadian indie band Great Lake Swimmers. Tony releases his new album Prayer of the Woods in the UK on 18 Nov 2013 and features 10 tracks: 8 new and original songs as well as covers of “Land of the Glass Pinecones” by ’80s new wave act Human Sexual Response and “Carefree Highway” by Gordon Lightfoot. Our song of choice today is the title track for which an official video has been released.
The video for Prayer of the Woods was directed by Great Lake Swimmers’ Erik Arnesen. It was filmed north of Toronto at the Glen Haffy Conservation Area; the Bruce Trail runs through this area, and at this point, there’s a hand-carved sign inscribed with the anonymous poem “Prayer of the Woods.” The poem, which is of Portugese origin and has spread to North America, provides the lyrical underpinning for this song.
