Sam Lee & Friends are returning to their North London stomping ground for a very special one off performance at Union Chapel on 4th October. The release of Ground of its Own (read our review and interview) led to huge exposure including a Mercury Prize nomination, three BBC Folk Award nominations, fRoots Album of the Year and a tour of Europe, Canada and Japan.
Sam’s unique, natural singing style has brought a new voice to traditional song while his work with gypsy communities has helped to highlight the treasures of traveller culture. Sam Lee & Friends have created a captivating stage show and their Union Chapel performance will feature material from their new album – out in 2014.
Sam seems to savour every note of the melody, cherish every word of the song, and delight in every nuance of the story. What more could you ask for in a collection of traditional songs? Neil McFadyen writing for Folk Radio UK
