Plankton Wat is the work of Dewey Mahood, experimental guitarist and ex-member of Eternal Tapestry. His latest offering Drifter’s Temple is his second album to be released on Thrill Jockey following the release of ‘Spirits‘ in 2012. The album is inspired by his Northern Californian roots as well as integrating other influences that he has a passion for: Appalachian folk and 70’s cosmic music.
The album cover is a good reason to get this release on vinyl, it’s adorned with a psychedelic jungle, birds and shamanistic wanderer…it’s the artwork of Phil French (Stunned Tapes founder, member of Super Minerals, Magic Lantern, Nite Lite) and is reminiscent of Mati Klarwein.
The album was recorded by Mahood at home on a four-track and features contributions from Dustin Dybvig (Horse Feathers & Edibles), Matt McDowell (Sagas) and John Rau (Royal Baths & Edibles). Plankton Wat will be touring Europe extensively over the coming months, including a performance at the Incubate Festival in the Netherlands, as well as the US. He is also performing at Cafe Oto w/ Date Palms, J. Spaceman, Pat Thomas and Kid Millions (of Oneida fame).
