This week FRUK will be bringing you an exclusive preview of The Lost Cavalry‘s debut album Three Cheers For The Undertaker (read Helen’s review here). As well as previewing tracks the band will be offering some insights into each track. Here are the first two:
1) Secret Steps
Most of the tracks on “Three Cheers For The Undertaker” are individual stories, but there are a few themes that we keep coming back to – and the sea is one of them. Secret Steps are the windy steps down from the cliffs to the sea, and the song is about escaping. The song starts with a dream I had, where I woke but couldn’t move my body. I could see a silent and scary procession of soldiers marching along the road outside, and remember thinking I’d be ok as long as none of them looked up and saw me.
2) Snow City Radio
Snow City Radio is the story of an Arctic radio station, cut off from the rest of the world, broadcasting their last show before the snow comes in, buries the station and traps the DJs in for the winter. Their final message is a plea to the outside world for someone to dig them out again when the snow starts the thaw. We filmed a video for this track featuring lots of stop-motion shots of a radio station defrosting and then freezing up again. It was filmed entirely in my living room, using a lot of fake snow and old radio equipment, some of which we literally put in the freezer to frost up – very confusing for my housemates!
