It seems fitting in the month where Martin Simpson is our featured artist, having delivered one of the finest albums of his career, that Fabian Holland (sadly no relation of mine) should raise his head. I’m not trying to make a comparison, but I can imagine Martin tuning into this and feeling a sense of both pride, for the trail he has blazed with the acoustic guitar and the melodic and harmonic possibilities that he has opened up, but also a slightly envious glance at a young man, who seems to have been listening, learning and still has his career in front of him.
We’ll bring you more on his debut album very soon, but to whet your whistle, here’s Home, plucked as a single and our Song of the Day. In the meantime, here’s Fabian giving us a little insight into the song.
“When I was living in Bristol on my friends floors and sofas, I was busking to pay my way and I was feeling quite home sick, I really wanted to come back home but I felt I couldn’t until I had made something of myself. So this song is about that time and it’s also one of my few autobiographical songs because it’s very personal to me.”
We think you’ll agree, it’s lovely stuff.
