we’re really looking forward to Purbeck Folk Festival this year, if it was anything like last year then I know we, the FRUK family that is, are going to have a great time. At last year’s festival the kids never ran out of things to do including a huge treasure hunt and the size of the festival also means that the grown-ups can relax and let the kids run around without worrying about losing them. That’s a perfect family friendly festival in our book!
The line-up for Purbeck is always a bit special, it’s unique and original and they have a very keen eye for new talent. Last year there was three main stages: two (under cover) in the long barn / High barn along with an incredible bar that served more ales than I’ve ever seen in my life! Then there was the Firepit Stage which was outdoors and featured a heap of new and local talent. There was also a lovely cafe in one of the farm outbuildings which featured an open mic stage and slam poetry competition. All this along with walks, storytelling, crafts, workshops and great food made this a perfect festival experience which is why we’re going back again!
This year Purbeck have increased the stages to five with a whole new Purbeck Rising stage which will showcase lots of new talent! KT Tunstall who was headlining last year was so taken by the new talent she came across that she offered recording time in her studio to 16 year old Aimee McKenzie who will be performing again this year.
The line-up this year includes Show of Hands, Karine Polwart, Mama Rosin, Urban Folk Quartet, Dizraeli & the Small Gods, Urban Folk Quartet, Martha Tilston, Gadarene, Sheelanagig, Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker, Hatful of Rain, The Carrivick Sisters and many many more!
