It was back in 2011 that we first introduced I Am Pilot, a six-piece band from different corners of the world but formed in Hackney. Their EP New Life Starts Tomorrow is out now and has a ‘name your price’ tag on bandcamp. It’s a great showcase of their talent and you won’t find their sound going through repetitive formulas, from the gritty and spacious opener Set yourself on fire to the blues tinged turmoil of The Pressure in a Body they give it their all. Fynan’s lead vocals ebb and flow throughout from lo-fi’esque to aching urgency on the powerful Dont self destruct.
Musically the band have a diverse range that can ride low and sonorous and swell to a raging grandeur that belies their numbers. Comparisons to Arcade Fire are not surprising in this respect but they have an original sound that sets them apart.
New Life Starts Tomorrow is very honest and original, they have a genuine solid feel to them, the kind that will carry on growing and developing and with another new EP already on the way we expect to be hearing more from them very soon. They also have a really nice stage presence as you can see from their recent SOFAR Session below.
