Abi Wade featured in session on the Nest Collective Hour back in December last year and she’s been regularly featured in our playlist since. Her unmistakeable cello is a driving force that adds a unique dynamic to her unconventional sound from bass line to looping bows, plucks and taps that build seamlessly into her mix creating unexpected depth from one instrument. On her latest single ‘Boxer’ (released digitally on July 15th) she builds a stirring force to match a feisty & defiant battle cry of a song, touching on the subject of domestic violence. Watch the video below:
Totally unlike any former artist, there are however similarities with the independently distinct Arthur Russell, Joanna Newsom and Kate Bush.
Since releasing her now sold out debut EP ‘and blood and air’ in November 2011 on Debutaniel from Esben & The Witch’s Love Thy Neighbour imprint, Abi has toured the UK & Europe with Patrick Wolf, released ’Heavy Heart / Faker’ on 7’’ vinyl, this time with Daniel on production duties. She has played End of The Road, The Great Escape and Meadowlands Festival and supported the likes of Other Lives, Deptford Goth, The Low Anthem, Sea of Bees and Dan Mangan.
