Snippet aka Johnno Casson is a Colchester based artist I’ve recently had the pleasure of getting to know a bit more through a few late night conversations talking about music. He releases his new mini album D.I.Y this month on Rash Records which gets released as a digital edition and is also available as a cassette tape.
As Johnno demonstrates on D.I.Y there are no boundaries to where his music can go, the scene he performs within is a fascinating one where collaborations are always taking place and gigs are put on with the help of friends and a growing community of like-minded music fans. Johnno and the likes of fellow DIY music maker Pulco are the musical equivalent of ‘off-griders’…far removed from commercial excess where the air is cleaner and freedom rules.
Collaborations don’t just rest with like-minded artists, Johnno’s kids also feature on this release which give it a lovely homegrown feel, very touching and real. There is a raw honesty to this album from the witty to the observational songs that have a very comforting everyday familiarity to them. The likes of Gone to Ground and Come to my Party take on anthemic qualities over several listens, it’s addictive…welcome to the loveable universe of Snippet!
