Vienna Ditto tag their music as Voodoo Sci-Fi Blues, something that makes total sense after hearing the title track of their EP Liar Liar. With an intro that hints at their BBC Radiophonic Workshop inspiration that then gets blown away by a dirty sonic backbeat and vintage sounding guitars as they get down to buiness.
Their sound is somewhere between a vintage smoke filled basement in Chicago and Bristol’s own early trip-hop scene with Hatty Taylor’s vocals sounding not that removed from Martina Topley Bird. Whilst their earlier work saw them gain a Maida Vale BBC Introducing session and a Glastonbury spot in 2009 this work is tighter and more defined. We love it, definitely a band to watch for!
