David Fendick and Jonny Hooker are better known to most as Fossil Collective, a duo from Leeds that whilst fed on the likes of Neil Young and Fleetwood Mac will sound like kindred spirits of Fleet Foxes with their layered harmonies but more rooted in the English song tradition. That may surprise some but if anyone picked up the Mojo compilation ‘Sun It Rises’ (May 2011) which was curated by Fleet Foxes you will have heard the likes of Nic Jones alongisde tracks by Roy Harper, Sandy Denny and The Strawbs as well as the more obvious modern comparisons to their sound. The ‘English quality’ that is conveyed in the Fossil Collective music is something that has always gone down a treat in the US which will explain why the band have just signed to Vagrant in the US and are about to go on tour with Boxer Rebellion, another UK band that we introduced back in 2011. Looks like they’re going to have a great year.
Here’s a taster of their music with “Let It Go” which is taken from their album ‘Tell Where I Lie’ which was released in the UK last month on Dirty Hit.
