Well seeing as we’ve already featured a great band with “Bear” in their title already today why not follow the trend with yet another fine band that we think are worth getting excited over: Hunter & The Bear are an unsigned trio that hail from Scotland (Achiltibuie and Glasgow) and Huddersfield, they were formed in 2012 and are made up of Jimmy (Lead Guitar, Mandolin, Vocals), Will (Rhythm Guitar, Vocals, Kick Drum) and Josh (Bass, Harmonica, Vocals). After watching their recent video for Fisherman’s Way the hairs on my neck stood up on end when they sang together a sure sign that I should introduce them.
Their Cubs EP shows off their diversity from a power driven opener ‘Forest on the Hill‘ that is reminiscent of ‘Of Monsters & Men’ but as the rest of the EP shows they have plenty of originality with Catalina , a tale of a women with a gypsy soul and the slow burning Wayward Son before ending on the upbeat fast paced Taliesin a track that will no doubt grow to become their finale crowd pleaser.
We’re looking forward to hearing more, in the meantime catch them live tomorrow night (May 23rd) at The Garage in Islington, London and Ronnie Scott’s on June 4th. More dates here
